Preventive Care Keeps Pets Healthy & Active
Edmonds Veterinary Hospital believes that preventive care is the most effective way to keep pets healthy and active for a long time. But, we know that not every pet is the same. That’s why we tailor our preventive care to each individual pet we treat. We carefully consider breed, family situation, and living environment so that we can develop a wellness plan that is right for your pet.
Customized Vaccination Plan
When you bring your pet in for his or her first visit, your veterinarian will do a thorough physical exam and perform baseline blood work. Once we have a good picture of your pet’s health, age, activity level, and living environment, we will suggest a vaccination plan that is just right for your pet. Common vaccinations we administer include:Dogs:
- Distemper combination with Parvo
- Canine leptospirosis
- Rabies (required by law for all indoor and outdoor pets)
- Feline distemper combination
- Feline leukemia `
In addition, we strongly encourage all of our pet owners to use flea prevention products. For dogs, we recommend Trifexis, and for cats, we recommend Revolution. However, if you have questions about these or other products, please feel free to ask our vets and they will be more than happy to answer your questions.
Annual checkups are a vital part of taking care of your pet. Routine wellness exams are a good opportunity to discuss general preventive health, nutrition, weight control, behavior issues, and any other questions you may have about taking care of your pet. Each time you bring your pet for a checkup, you can expect the following:
- Physical exam—Nose-to-tail examination of your pet’s physical condition
- Dental exam—A close up look at your pet’s teeth and gums, essential to their overall health
- Vaccination updates as needed
- Blood work, if indicated
- Discussion of nutrition, behavior issues, and any other topic you would like to talk to your vet about
When you bring your pet for a checkup, be sure to tell us anything out of the ordinary about your pet’s behavior, as well as any medications (including over the counter medications) you are giving your pet. Working together, we will make sure your pet gets the finest care so that you can enjoy each other for years to come.
